Authentic Experiences for Kids

Children need real, authentic experiences with the earth. Children learn through their senses. They must have real experiences to be effective. I recently posted on an eye opening exercise for educators. So what are easiest ways to achieve those experiences?

Authentic Experiences for Kids

Here is a short list of phenomenal authentic experiences to give to your child:

  1. Free standing magnifying glass to closely examine real objects
  2. Collect specimens for hands on exploration
  3. Create a garden from scratch with them
  4. Care for a Pet
  5. Care for a Plant
  6. Visit a Farm
  7. Nature Walk
  8. Visit Animals in a park, at a zoo or in an animal shelter
  9. Label plants indoors and outdoors (what family? what name?)
  10. Give a lesson outdoors
  11. Go camping
  12. Sleep outdoors
  13. Lay down in a big field
  14. Go on a Listening Walk
  15. Go on an excursion to ride a city bus, a train or a ferry
  16. Set up a behind the scenes visit to a bakery or other type of hands on business
  17. Cultivate a garden together
  18. Offer specimens
  19. Outdoor education
  20. Woodworking
  21. Cooking
  22. Use real objects
  23. Take apart a phone, computer or flashlight
  24. Participate in Screen Free Week
