Are there Moments You Wish You Could Freeze in Time?

SHARE THIS POST:

Are there moments in life when you wish you could freeze time?  I don’t mean as a parent with our babies, although man there are at least a billion of those moments. Think back to when you were younger, before kids, maybe before your partner, when life seemed so complicated and confusing yet so clear all at once? Moments with friends that told you everything will be all right. Moments that made you who you are today? This post is a tribute to all those beautiful, cherished, often crushing moments.

That Moment in Time

  • A reassuring talk
  • A pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream
  • A long rant aimed at the horrible grade/person/race/game/paper/part of your body that upset you so much
  • Long talks laying on a blanket in the middle of a sunlit field
  • Walks in the rain/snow/sleet holding your hand, watching our breath in the cold or our jeans soaking up the rain, letting you know that you would get past that crappy moment
  • Sprinting to you both of us breathless, me because I couldn’t reach you fast enough to hold you up, you because the tears quickly sucked every breath of air from your lungs

“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” Cesare Pavese

I miss those moments of friendship, of support, of time, of seemingly endless minutes and hours…

I can’t escape the pain of missing those moments. I’m not going to tell you that motherhood lights my fire every minute.

I must honor those moments and those friendships that made me who I am today as a partner and a parent.

I will do more than honor those once upon times. I will long for them. I will savor them. I will close my eyes and be in them.

That is what will keep me strong, resilient, and, well, content.

I will try to do this eye closing time travel in the happiest moments as well as the most isolating moments as a parent.

Friends come and gone are still there.

Moments of support and conversation didn’t go away.

These friends and these moments are the ingredients to my life’s recipe.

Always.

{Especially the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.}
