I love Earth Day. Who am I kidding? I love Earth Day Month. There is so much wonderful learning and outdoor exploration to ignite our children’s passions about the world. My goal for my boys is to create a sense of awe and wonder of the world. So, even in rainy Seattle, we spend a lot of time exploring in the fresh air of the outdoors.
Materials Needed for this Simple Earth Day Activity for Kids
- foam circles
- shaving cream
- glue
- brush or craft stick
- liquid water color (optional)
- beads and buttons (optional)
Approach to this Simple Earth Day Activity
- Make your homemade puff paint by mixing 1 part glue and 1 part shaving cream
- Add color with food coloring or liquid water color
- Mix Up
- Pull out your Foam Circles
- Introduce to your child. I used the buttons and beads as symbols of land forms and the puffy paint represented the clouds. This approach offered the opportunity to discuss land, air & water, cloud formation, the water cycle and land forms while we created our earth(s). My son really got into the idea of the buttons being mountains.
- Letting our work dry is always the toughest part especially since this homemade puffy paint feels really interesting as it is drying
