Life Cycle of the Honey Bee – Story Sequence Cards

SHARE THIS POST:

A great pre-reading activity is the use of story sequence cards. I am completing a unit on Honeybees. I created a Lifecycle of a Honeybee story sequence cards. I had to share them with you, of course!

Thank you to Nasa for the lovely Lifecycle of a Honeybee illustration. I printed out the below image, cut it into four sections, mounted it on card stock, and laminated it. Below is a brief overview of the material. {Please do not reproduce and sell any material using this image. Thank you!

Life Cycle of a Honeybee Story Sequence Cards

The purpose of this material is to present a sequence of actions in a story and offer an opportunity to think analytically and, in this case, scientifically about the life cycle of a honey bee. In this four-part Story Sequence Card set, the story of bee development is captured in stages beginning with “Egg,” “Larva,” “Pupa,” and “Adult.”

Each piece of laminated cardstock displays an image representing the beginning, middle, and end of a young bee’s life cycle into adulthood. In this process, children follow the order of the cards to show how bees grow in size and form in the course of a four-card lesson.

This work encourages children to build on their senses of order, concentration, visual discrimination, and sequencing skills; improves their coordination, and fosters an independent work ethic.

A great concrete material to include with this lesson is Safari’s Lifecycle of a Honeybee replica:
