My six-year-old is in his sensitive period for grammar. I looked around our home and decided to create Montessori Preposition Cards based on what was in my boys’ environment.
This post includes a Montessori lesson to teach prepositions with an apple theme! I used my camera to capture REAL images of objects in our home to include in a fall or apple lifecycle unit.
I wanted the pictures to be relatable and relevant to the child. I also wanted simple cards.
Montessori Preposition Cards with Real Images
I like to use real objects to introduce this part of the sentence. Take a few small objects such as a tub and a cat and demonstrate each preposition with the cat figurine and the tub. I created cards using an apple and a basket.
A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between two words. Prepositions come before a noun or pronouns. A preposition does not always exist as a single word. Examples are “in front of” or “in addition to”.

I chose apples because the object is familiar and easily applied across time of year and geographical location. Plus, most kids love apples. So, why not include apples in their learning?
