I would have LOVED this gift as a young girl. Personalized books are great gifts for girls and boys. They will love being at the center of the story. I always imagined myself in the books my mother read to me. I closed my eyes and dreamt away. That is what kids do.
My Christmas Story
I saw Santa Claus once. In our living room, at the tree, looking jolly. I am almost 37 years old yet I still hold that memory. Believing in something is a good lesson to teach a child, even if that something is not real. Sounds wild coming from a Montessorian, right?

I am an adult. I don’t believe in Santa. I don’t remember the day I “discovered” Santa was in fact not going to make it down my chimney and around the world to visit all children in one evening.
What I do remember are warm feelings of being close to my family, feeling the excitement of the holidays, writing a note to Santa, remembering to leave carrots out for the reindeer.

I can hear my mother’s voice reading the book.
I can hear my Nana’s voice reading the book.
I can feel the warmth of my siblings cuddled near me.
I can hear my Aunt telling me how she and my father (who has passed away) had special memories of this book.
The memories are warm and deep. The words and those feelings are ingrained in me. These memories are part of who I am as a mother.
I always imagined myself in this book as one of the children all nestled in bed…

I found the Perfect Hot Cocoa Recipe courtesy of Alton Brown of the Food Network. Hot Cocoa is a must throughout the holiday season but especially the night before Christmas. This recipe is great because it makes a mix so you can make it ahead of time. So boil some water, mix in your hot cocoa mix and cozy up. Something new that I am attempting this year is making homemade marshmallows to put into our hot cocoa. Thank you again, Alton Brown.
