Hi there! I hope you enjoyed last week’s post in this Integrating Montessori at Home series. Welcome to Week 2. Enjoy! Let me know what you think!
Day Eight
Involve your child in caring for your home environment. Choose a chore, such as unloading the dishwasher, sweeping, or folding laundry, introduce/demonstrate your child to this chore, and let him know this chore is his family responsibility. Check out this list of Routine and Chore Charts for more ideas.
Day Nine
Remove unnecessary “clutter to the eye” from walls, especially within your child’s spaces in your home.
Day Ten
Create a child friendly environment by placing art work at child’s eye level.
Day Eleven
Creating a child friendly environment by adding a stool to the bathroom and by making sure that sink, soap & towels are easily accesible to the child. Is the light switch reachable for the child? check out this Montessori at Home post for more ideas.
Day Twelve
Create a more child friendly home and foster independence by placing a coat rack at child’s level. Such a simple way to help a child take care of himself and feel good about it. This easy addition to your home will build confidence and independence.
Day Thirteen
Purchase kitchen tools for kids! Yes, kids can help with meal preparation. Give them tools that fit their small hands, show them how to use the tools, and demonstrate how to use these tools safely. Montessori Services has a great set of Kids in the Kitchen tools. {affiliate link}
Day Fourteen
Go outside without a plan. What will you discover? Take moments to observe solely with your eyes. Encourage listening by taking a listening walk. Here are a few fun Montessori inspired listening activities if you need ideas. What do you hear? What do you smell? What textures do you feel? For inspiration, see my nature activities and outdoor education posts.
