We are huge fans of board games in our house and homeschool. Board games are a fantastic way to have fun with your kids and get them engaged in learning. There is a myriad of games for learning money and math even for younger kids.

These board games are perfect across a wide age range.  Some days you just got to throw away traditional lesson plans and focus on hands-on activities like board games.

These hands-on games are great for younger and older kids. Whether your child is learning how to count or ready to start her own business, these games will satisfy the whole family. 

#1 – Cash Flow for Kids

Age: 8 years old +

Number of Players: 2 or more

Duration of Play: 30 minutes

Akin to Monopoly but a bit more relevant to real-life scenarios AND teaches kids the value of tracking expenses and revenue. The goal of this game is to begin teaching kids personal finance through investments, real estate, and stocks.

Your budding entrepreneur just may find the hook to get her going on the path to building her own business. What better way to teach kids money management? 

#2 – DragonWood

Age: 8 years old +

Number of Players: 2 to 4

Duration of Play: 20 minutes

Dragonwood is a family game that involves strategy and logical thinking with cards and dice. Plus, the game includes counting practice and a bit of imagination.  Kids and adults are drawn to the mix of luck and tactical strategy in order to lead to victory. Lots of replay opportunities! 

#3 – Yahtzee

Age: 8 years old +

Number of Players: 2 or more

Classic game for kids that keeps on giving. I know, boring, but Yahtzee is the game that packs a punch with kids. Plus, they don’t even know they’re learning while they’re having fun.

Cribbage is a classic, timeless game. Did you know that it has been around for hundreds of years? Crazy, right?

My son’s sixth-grade math teacher introduced me to this game. This math game will improve mental math skills while kids train their brains for multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and even square roots. 

#7 – Exact Change

Age: 6 years old +

Number of Players: 2 to 6

Duration of Play: 15 minutes

A fun game for the whole family to teach kids to count money! The goal of the game is to play all your cards first? How? You discard cards by matching the color of the last card played, by matching the currency value, or by making exact change. 

There is a teaching lesson on money plus loads of fun. 

#8 – Rummikub

Age: 8 years old +

Number of Players: 2 to 4

Duration of Play: 15 minutes

This game combines Mahjong and Rummy, two of my favorites! This game works STEM skills such as strategic thinking, sequencing, and patterns. And it is simple. The first player to use all his tiles wins the game.

Players take turns placing numbered tiles in runs or groups, Rummy style, and you can play off other player’s sequences. 

#9 – Adsumudi Math Game

Age: 8 – 12 years old

Number of Players: 2 to 6

Duration of Play: 15 minutes

I will admit that I recently discovered this game but man am I excited to dive in with my kids! Say goodbye to workbooks to help kids practice math facts.
