‘Tis the season and we love gourds. The farm we visited last week was crawling with beautiful gourds of all sizes and textures. My two-year-old began racing around describing the gourds: ‘mama, this one smooth! This one bumpy! This one slippery! This one dirty! This one green! This one orange AND green!’
Simple sensory play.
Great for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Benefits include sensory and vocabulary. The activity also ties into tradition, seasons, and farm and food science. Math is also an extension if you’re bold enough to take a knife to the beautifully decorative gourds.
So simple but so wonderful for development. Remember that the activity doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming or expensive for us parents and educators.
Thanks for visiting,
Marnie
